The Kiwanis Club of Flint has a history of grantmaking with funds available through the Kiwanis Health Camp Foundation (501c3), made possible by the generosity of its early membership (bequest and investment pools) and fundraising activities.
The grants committee is led by the immediate past president of Flint Kiwanis. Grant requests are accepted in the early months of each year, with grants announced in May and awarded to grantees at meetings in June.
Student Athlete Program
The Kiwanis Club of Flint organizes and hosts a countywide student athlete recognition program that began in 1976 by local sports reporter Pete Sark, who originally named the program to honor his father Donald B. Sark. Male and female high school athletes are honored monthly at Flint Kiwanis meetings. All nominees and athletes of the month are recognized at an annual banquet held each May. From the athletes of the month, a male and female athlete of the year are named.
